Halloween is that time of the year when you can be anyone you want to be, whether that’s a superhero or one of the supervillains in Suicide Squad. Unlike the more widely known save-the-world types of heroes, the characters you can channel in Suicide Squad are more nuanced and interesting.
The characters in Suicide Squad are more of the antihero type, straddling the line between good and evil. They’re supervillains, that’s for sure, but they’re also the ones the government turns to in order to accomplish dangerous black-ops missions that will save the world from a powerful threat. That makes them really, REALLY cool.
There are many characters featured in the Suicide Squad movie, some as part of the task force and some as their adversaries. Their abilities and motivations differ, but they’re all really fascinating. Pick one that you can relate with, or pick one that’s entirely different from your usual persona. It is Halloween, after all.
A cold-blooded killer, Deadshot (Floyd Lawton) is well-known as an expert in marksmanship. This hired assassin has a desire to die spectacularly, and while he has no superpowers per se, he has cybernetic implants that can enhance his abilities.
The iconic Joker is a psychopath in every sense of the word. He has no superhuman abilities but is a known genius and expert in creating chaos, often paired with his sadistic sense of humor. A criminal mastermind, Joker is Batman’s archenemy, presenting a humorous spectacle to counter Batman’s dark and broody nature.
Harleen Quinzel used to be Joker’s psychiatrist but eventually fell madly in love with him, and now she’s his crazed but devoted accomplice-slash-girlfriend. Harley Quinn is one of the most iconic and manipulative characters in the squad, portrayed as crazy and sadistic but also badass, agile and strong. Like the Arkham series of games, the movie introduces a look that is drastically different from the original court jester outfit. The Harley Quinn Costume of Suicide Squad retains the element of a character that is a bit psychopathic, while also looking modern and sexy.
If there’s one thing Captain Boomerang has going for him, it’s his speed. That, and his ability to wield trick boomerangs to achieve his aims. His deadly boomerangs have made him an equally deadly assassin to contend with.
Easily recognizable because of his reptilian features, his scales are his armor, giving him an animalistic persona. His superpowers include superhuman strength, speed, and endurance, heightened senses, and regenerative abilities.
A gangster with pyrokinetic abilities, El Diablo can manipulate fire and heat. He can summon flames at will so you do not want to mess with him either.
A trained assassin who is incredibly good with ropes, Slipknot (Christoper Weiss) uses this expertise to strangle people, tie his opponents, and kill silently and masterfully. He has even managed to make his ropes unbreakable.
A Japanese swordswoman you would not want to be on the wrong side of, Katana (Tatsu Yamashiro) is also a martial artist and vigilante. Her sword (Soultaker) can capture all the spirits of those it kills, enabling Katana to communicate with them.
Rick Flag is the powerful military officer who is also the leader of Task Force X. He is often portrayed with a fiery temper and with a slight mental instability.
An ancient and powerful sorceress, the Enchantress can teleport, heal, walk through walls, and manipulate magic to affect objects and achieve what she intends.
Amanda Waller is a high-ranking government officer who is ruthless, authoritative, and unforgiving in her aims. She puts this squad together, so she’s not a supervillain who fights with the Suicide Squad per se. She is however very critical to the existence of the squad.
There’s no question about it: these Suicide Squad characters are extremely badass. With this blockbuster movie to back you up, you don’t even need to be a comic book fan to identify who these characters are. For sure, this crazy antihero team will be the talk of the town for a long time. The best part about it is that even large groups can go with a Suicide Squad theme this Halloween, with each one channeling one of these supervillains.
Together, you’ll be unstoppable.
About the Movie
Directed by David Ayer, Suicide Squad is a gritty, vicious, and superbly directed film based on the popular DC Comics team of antiheroes and supervillains. It stars an ensemble cast that includes Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Joel Kinnaman, Cara Delevingne, Jai Courtney, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Jay Hernandez, Scott Eastwood, Ike Barinholtz, Adam Beach, and Karen Fukuhara.
The story revolves around “Task Force X,” a secret government agency put together by Amanda Waller (played by Viola Davis) to execute black ops missions. What makes this unique is that this group is comprised not of superheroes but of imprisoned supervillains, who are doing this mission for the promise of clemency in return.
